The more than $1 billion Students FIRST Deficiency Bond Corrections Program was created by the State of Arizona to upgrade public schools around the state. The Chanen joint venture worked on this program by managing the construction improvements on all 27 schools in the Scottsdale Unified School District, 4 high schools in the Tempe Union High School District and all 23 schools in the Tempe Elementary Schools District.
Some of the upgrades the schools received include:
- replacing heating and air conditioning units
- replacing mechanical and electrical equipment
- improving parking and drop-off areas
- adding security fencing
- providing statewide communications systems
- repairing building structures
- improving lighting and acoustics
- replacing and upgrading roofing
- improving drainage
- updating facilities to current ADA standards
