The City of Phoenix Aviation Department selected a Chanen joint venture to manage both the design and construction phases of the $280 million Terminal 4 project at Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport. The facility, designed by DWL Architects + Planners included a seven-story terminal; a four-story, 3,400 car parking garage, two three-story 28-gate concourses; two two-story 16-gate concourses and an additional 700 car parking structure for rental car consortium.
Although a significant number of tenant requested design changes were made late in the design phase, the project management team was able to minimize the delay and maintain the original construction schedule. To keep the project on schedule, the team divided the work into 14 separate bid packages and used three general contractors. this procedure met the city's funding requirements and allowed fast-track construction of the project.
